About KEN CANUP

Overview

"For more than 30 years I have been involved in virtually every aspect of marketing communications. From my early days as a free-lance graphic designer to my years as the National Marketing Director for JFG Coffee and as a co-owner of my own firm, I have experienced the world of advertising / marketing from a number of different perspectives.

My primary role within the advertising / marketing arena would be classified as "Creative Director" where I am responsible for the integration of all the creative components necessary to fashion a successful advertising / marketing project or campaign."

As Creative Director

As the "Creative Director" I am engaged in supervising the following areas in order to control the time lines and budgets for the campaign or project.

  • Creative Direction
  • Graphic Design for print media (brochures, newspapers, outdoor boards, etc.)
  • Logo and corporate identity development
  • Photography
  • Radio / television commercial production
  • Media buying / placement (print & broadcast)
  • Copywriters / illustrators / cinematographers / music
  • Overall project / campaign coordination
  • Cost analysis (print quotes, photography estimates, cinematography costs, etc.)
  • Market research
  • Talent selection (radio / television productions, models, etc.)

In Closing

"I learned early in life that, to do something well you have to enjoy whatever it is you're doing. For my part, I love guiding the creative aspects of the process. I enjoy making the parts come together to form a completed "something," whether it's a project or a full-blown campaign. Advertising / marketing functions don't have to be mundane, energy draining experiences. Although, for many of you, they can be because you may not enjoy the challenges they present, or it may not be what you normally do on a day to day basis. My best advice, in the event that you fall into the latter category, is that you find someone who does like to handle such tasks. The result will be fewer headaches for you and a better overall product. In the event that you fall into the former category, from one enthusiast to another, there's nothing like a good creative puzzle to keep the old juices flowing!"
